Authentic Philly Cheesesteak

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 500 g Ribeye steak Thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 large Onions Thinly sliced
  • 2 Green bell peppers Optional, thinly sliced
  • 100 g Provolone cheese Or Cheez Whiz or American cheese
  • 4 Hoagie rolls Soft and sturdy
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • Salt To taste
  • Black pepper To taste

Instructions
 

  • Thinly slice the ribeye steak against the grain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add sliced onions (and bell peppers if using) and sauté until caramelized, about 8–10 minutes.
  • Push the onions to the side of the skillet and add the sliced ribeye steak. Cook until browned.
  • Season with salt and pepper, then mix the onions and steak together in the skillet.
  • Place cheese slices over the meat mixture and cover until melted.
  • Toast hoagie rolls lightly if desired, then scoop the steak and cheese mixture into the rolls.

Notes

For extra richness, try adding mushrooms or jalapeños. Cheez Whiz provides the most authentic Philly experience, but provolone or American are also popular.
